Warning Signs

When You Need Slab Leak Repair in La Crosse

Slab leaks happen when a pipe under your concrete foundation starts to leak or burst. Older homes near Grandad Bluff and Cass Street still have original cast iron and galvanized pipe. Those lines are prone to this problem. You might notice warm spots on your floor. You might see a sudden jump in your water bill. You might hear running water when nothing is on. Minerals in our local groundwater speed up pipe corrosion. This makes slab leaks more common here than in many areas. Left alone, a small leak can undermine your foundation. It can lead to mold or cracked flooring.[1] Last month we had a call from a homeowner near Powell-Poage-Hamilton. They thought it was just a damp carpet. It turned out to be a slab leak that had been running for weeks. The sooner you call, the less damage you'll deal with.

Common Causes

Corroded Copper Pipe

Copper lines from the 1940s to 1960s are reaching the end of their life. Hard water speeds up the wear.

Shifting Foundation

Soil movement from freeze and thaw cycles puts stress on buried pipes. Hillside homes near Grandad Bluff see this often.

High Water Pressure

Pressure that's too high wears down joints and fittings over time. This causes small leaks to turn into big ones.

Abrasion From Concrete

Pipes rubbing against rough concrete slowly wear a hole. It's a slow leak that builds up damage for years.

Rising Water Bills

A bill that jumps with no change in use often points to a hidden leak. We check this first.

Warm Floor Spots

A warm patch on your floor usually means a hot water line is leaking under the slab. We can pinpoint it fast.

Fair Pricing

Slab Leak Repair Cost in La Crosse

Cost depends on how deep the pipe sits. It also depends on how far the leak is from an access point. Finally, it depends on whether we repair or reroute the line. Older homes near Cass Street with cast iron pipe sometimes need more work. Newer homes in Onalaska with PEX lines need less work. We give a free same-day estimate so you know the cost before we start. Homeowners should watch for warm floor spots or sudden water bill jumps. Catching a leak early keeps repair costs down.[1]

Recently moved into a new home and called this team for some (minor) plumbing fixes. Several of these issues were more intensive than expected, and I'd like to thank them for not only being willing to fix several things in one day, but for their excellent service the entire time! The one who helped me out explained everything and answered all my questions, and I'll be calling them in the future for additional fixes!

This was the second satisfactory job that was done by Advanced Plumbing for me. The first was a large job replacing my sewer system under the basement floor! A shocking discovery for me but handled professionally and seamlessly by their crew. I was very pleased and confident with the work done. They were very patient and willing to explain the details I wanted.
My second experience was not as complicated as I thought it may have been. I thought I had a leaking bathroom pipe. I was pleased to be told it was just a leaking hose into my refrigerator ice machine. Problem corrected within an hour!
I love these guys! I don't really want to see them again but I know the job will be done correctly if I need them.

We had a great experience with the plumbers who worked in our home, Jack and Richie. They were professional, respectful, and really listened to what we wanted. They took the time to make sure everything was done right, kept the work area clean, and were a pleasure to have in our home. We had them replace two shower valves and fixtures, and two drains. Their attention to detail and excellent customer service were greatly appreciated. We would recommend this company and especially appreciate the outstanding work done by Jack and Richie!

Common Questions

Slab Leak Repair Questions

Here are answers to what La Crosse homeowners ask us most about slab leaks.

  • How much does slab leak repair cost?

Most repairs run between $500 and $4,000 depending on pipe depth and repair method. We give a free same-day estimate before starting. Older homes with cast iron pipe often cost more than newer PEX systems.

  • How long does a slab leak repair take?

Most jobs take one to two days from detection to finished repair. Complex cases with deep pipes can take longer. We'll give you a time estimate after we find the leak.

  • Can I fix a slab leak myself?

We don't recommend it. Finding the exact leak location under concrete takes special equipment most homeowners don't own. A wrong guess means unnecessary demolition and wasted money.

  • How is this different from a regular pipe leak?

A slab leak sits under your concrete foundation, not in an accessible wall or ceiling. That makes detection harder and repair more specialized. It also puts your foundation at risk if ignored.

  • How fast should I call about a slab leak?

Call as soon as you notice warm floor spots or a rising water bill. Waiting lets water damage spread to your foundation and flooring. We offer same-day appointments for this reason.

  • What are the signs of a slab leak?

Watch for warm spots on the floor, the sound of running water, or mold near baseboards. A sudden spike in your water bill is another common sign. Cracks in flooring can also point to a leak.

  • Will you need to break up my floor?

Not always. We use detection equipment to pinpoint the leak before cutting anything. Sometimes we can reroute the line instead of digging through the slab at all.
